I have a gateway laptop. Starting from yesterday, whenever I turn on the laptop, it gives me this prompt: "Windows could not start because the fllowing file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
How can I fix this problem. I greatly depend on this laptop.
Thank you!

Clarification/Follow-up by Jim.McGinness on 11/08/06 4:39 pm: Did that file name come out the way you typed it? It looks like Answerway removed all your backslashes.
WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM
There is a file named
/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM
which holds system configuration information and may be updated by the system at any time, so it could have been damaged while being written if the computer had lost power just then.
Have you tried the method suggested in the message? Do you have your setup CD-ROM?
