Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior Anonymous 08/23/06
Does this behavior qualify as obsessive-compulsive? My husband likes to keep everything neat and in order because he hates additional domestic work. Every time someone messes something up or something is out of order, all he does is complain about all the work there is to do around the house. He claims he works all day and doesn't want to come home to additional messes that our teenage does, the dog does, our 6 year old does. Needless to say, I work all day, do everyday chores, etc, but I don't flip if something falls out of order, even if I just cleaned it and I am not lazy about picking or straightening. I figure it is everyday living and to expect things to stay perfect, etc, is unrealistic when you have a family. I feel that he just wants to go his regular job and when he comes home, not have anything additional to do. However, he can never let anything sit - it has to be cleaned right away, put away, etc. Even if there is no domestic work, he finds work. And at the same time, he hates the work. He claims he works all the time around the house and doesn't want additional work. This is the paradox...he hates extra domestic work, but can't stop doing it, he hates being in the house and is only content when he is away from the house. What is going on with him?

    Thanks.
