Well, even though I would not be considered a fanatic audiophile by one of those fanatics, I am still very perfectionistic about the positioning of my audio gear.
Btw, fanatic audiophile or not, I do own a high end system with the following components:
Klyne Model SK-6 Preamplifier
Conrad Johnson MF-2100 Amplifier
Rega Planet CD Player
Aerial Acoustics Model 5 Speakers w/stands
The fanatic audiophile friend of mine who won me over to the high end audio religion and who also helped me select my high end system components would not consider me a true high end audiophile. He doesn't think I have the ears to differentiate between high end and low end sound, but I think I do -- I know my high end system definitely does not sound the same as a low end system I used to have.
Consider me an audiophile rookie, as I am just getting started in high end audio as a hobby. Otherwise I should have known enough not to have needed to post this question here in the first place. But I am hard-core enough of an audiophile that I would need to have the correct speaker stand height for the Polk Rti-4s.
To answer your question, I will be sitting upright in a desk chair. The Polk's will be for a stereo system I will be using instead of a 2.1 multimedia speaker system, for my desktop pc.
I'll be using an Onkyo TX-8222 Receiver with the Polk's. My guess is that the speaker stands I need would be 31 inches in height. Is that correct?
Thanks again,
C.L.

C.L., you're clearly into this deeper than nearly anyone I know. Why not get adjustable stands? That way, you can experiment to find out what sounds best to you and not go by other people's dogma about what is supposed to sound best to you.
