When my sister was shopping for a TV and a DVD player, her then-boyfriend recommended she buy a Sharp TV and a Toshiba DVD player. She asked him if these brands, which are lower-priced than brands like Panasonic and Sony, are just as good.
He said yes, because the parts they use are the exact same ones used in the higher-priced brands. She trusted his counsel because he was a former vacuum repair shop employee and the repair skills he learned there enabled him to repair my sister's Sony shelf audio system before, so he seems to know about this stuff.
Is he right about Sharp and Toshiba being just as reliable as Panasonic and Sony?
BTW, when I say reliability I mean just how good-quality/durable the hardware is. I've been told that in evaluating a brand's reliability one should also take into account the quality of the manufacturer's customer support, and I'm not concerned about that here. I just want to know if a Sharp or a Toshiba is expected to last just as long as a Panasonic or a Sony before breaking down.
Many thanks,
C.L.
