Icarus, you said that "I would have expected" in your rating. You need to realize some things:
1. In the great scheme of things, this war in the Gulf is nothing.
2. Why do aliens need to match your expectations?
3. There has been, so far, no correlation between UFO's and human activities.
4. It is a huge universe. There are more interesting things to see than just Earth.

Hi again Dan
Thanks for the follow up.
May I firstly say that I am neither a believer or disbeliever that ETs are visiting us although I am totally convinced that there is life out there in the cosmos, some no more than single celled and others far in advance of our civilization (if they have not destroyed themselves as we seem bent on doing).
In answer to your 4 points:
1) I agree.
2) I cannot see in my question that I had any expectations. I merely wondered if there was any increase in UFO reports.
3) I am afraid I have to disagree, in parts of the UK there has been many reports of UFO activity especially around military installations and training grounds. A few years ago the town of Warminster was in the news virtually daily. Warminster at that time had a large military presence.
4)I agree but, IF we are being visited, I would have thought what is going on at present would have been of interest to them, if only for them to see how backward the human race is compared to them.
Thanks again.

John, regarding #3, I have not heard about these, but I generally discount them anyway due to the public-at-large's propensity to mistakenly interpret things. The more military activity there is the more chance of UFO reports that are totally inaccurate.
Like you, I have no doubt at all that we are not the only living things in this universe. People do not understand how large it is.

Good afternoon wvseagull
I have visited the site you have mentioned but was already aware of this. I am seriously thinking about downloading the SETI program.
Regarding your remarks about UFO activity over military areas. It is always difficult trying to sort the wheat from the chaff but I know there were a couple that no satisfactory explanation could be found. Not to say there is not one of course.
Over the last couple of weeks there have been reports of strange lights in the sky in the area I live even though there was no military activity at that time. It seems that the Aurora Borealis may have been responsible for this as this phenomenon has been seen in this area in the past.

John, let me clarify something. I said that there was no correlation between UFOs and human activities. What I mean by this is that apparently real UFOs (those that are NOT explained by weather balloons, aircraft, the Northern Lights, drunks, made-up stories, and the like) and human activities
(events including wars, parades, demonstrations, etc.) have nothing in common.
The Aurora Borealis, when brighter than normal and more intense, can be seen in lower than normal latitudes, and is frequently mistaken for UFO-caused incidents, due to the fact that the AB is not normally seen or recognized by some people.

Thank you again Dan.
I feel and I hope you agree that you and I have taken this particular topic as far as we can.
There is little I think that we disagree about.
Thanks very much for your input.

Aye, John, we do agree, but I wonder if the activity over there is due to the universal wonder if haggis tastes like the pipes sound.
(LOL-I really enjoy bagpipes, but have not yet tried haggis) Take care, Dan

With lightspeed - as far as our science concerns - still being the max. speed of anything or anyone, visiting aliens will be extremely unlikely.
Even visitors from Barnard's star (if aliens would live there - which is rather unlikely) would require tens of (earth) years to get here.
In that case aliens would not just hover around and return, but surely land and annouce their arrival loudly and have a "party".
Specially as upon return (their)home they will have aged considerably less than those who were left behind.
If ever aliens would arrive on earth it most probably would be bad news for humanity, as their technology would exceed ours by far, and they will look at us as primitive barbarians (with all possible consequences).
