California Law: Vehicle/Animal collisions |
graeylin |

I am new to California, and in reading the DMV handbooks and traffic code, it seems odd to me that California seems to require, by law, that I must stop and notify the Humane Society or the Highway Patrol anytime my vehicle is involved with striking/hitting/killing an animal while driving.
Does that mean i must really stop every time i hit a bug with my radiator? or splat a butterfly on my windshield? If not, then where in the animal kingdom does the state draw the line on which animals are protected by this law, and which are not? Insects, no.. Arachnids? Birds? Reptiles? Mammals? All mammals, like mice and voles, or just big mammals? |
