At approx. 10 pm my roommate and I were traveling down West St. when out of my mirror I noticed a police officer speeding toward me. It was just after I had made a left onto Morgan. He rode my bumper for about a block and then flashed his lights. There was no place for me to pull over without blocking traffic so I maintained speed until I could see a safe place. Than a few seconds after I was blue lighted the officer hit his siren as if I was a wanted criminal trying to escape. So I just stopped in the far right lane. The officer then approached my vehicle and asked me if I knew why he stopped me. I emphatically said I had no idea. He then tells me that an officer saw me run a stop sign at West and Jones. I said that was impossible b/c I had to stop behind another vehicle. He then asks me for my license and registration. I gave it to him and he took them back to his car. He is there for about 15 or 20 min. and comes back with a citation for running through a stop light. I told him that he said it was a stop sign and he replied that he had misspoken, and that I ran a stop light at West and Edenton. The police officer obviously had no idea what he was talking about when he pulled me over. If there was an officer that “saw” me run a light, than why was I not cited by the witnessing officer. Where was this officer? Was he on duty? The citing officer could not give any details on the “event”. Can an officer do this?
PS. I have already used my PJC
Any help would be much appreciated |
