Democracy in China? |

I am a Taiwanese-American. I was born in Taiwan, and have lived in the US since the age of 5. I am a naturalized US citizen.
Is there any hope that China will become a democracy? I was in Taiwan when Deng Xiaoping died, and on CNN they said that while he opened the door for capitalism into the country, he also made sure that the country would remain communist for a long time, perhaps permanently.
I'm in my mid-thirties now. Is there any chance that China will become a democracy in my lifetime?
I am not in favor of Taiwan reunifying with the mainland under the PRC's terms. I would only support reunification if and when China becomes a democracy.
Many thanks,
C.L.
