Fat metabolism in low fat diets- a biochem yr 2 Uni Q |

We've been given this topic for a biochem presentation. 'Is the high public profile given to polyunsaturated fatty acids in dietary products justifiable? Rationalise your argument within the framework of the modern trend for very low fat dietary habits and the perceived necessity for a balanced diet'. Now - we've covered: what are fats, where they fit into a balanced diet, why we need them,PUFAs/Omega's basic fat metabolism, substantiated and unsubsantiated health claims...but what's really lacking is the low fat diet bit of the question. We're finding it really hard to find info on what happens to the body metabolism-wise when following a low fat diet and how this is related to polyunsaturates specifically. There's lots of nutrition/health info out there...but not much actual biochem explanation. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks. |
