| Does anyone know about dubbing in foreign films? |

I don't understand why it seems to be so commonplace to dub English actors in films which are made in Italy in Italian, but then released in Britain and America in English.
Let me give one specific example, which could be used for many films. The sci-fi film STARCRASH (1979) was shot in Italy and Italian. It was then released all over Europe in many different languages. However, the version that we in the UK and US see is dubbed. Caroline Munro is dubbed, and I've read that all the cast - who are either Britons or Americans - are dubbed, with the exception of Christopher Plummer. So my question is: Why? Why go to the time, trouble and cost of dubbing native English actors in films that, although shot abroad, are to be seen in Britain and the UK? Obviously you would have to dub English actors in the Italian version shown in Italian cinemas, but why on earth do it for the English version shown in London?
I've used the example of STARCRASH simply because I saw it on tv recently. But although it's 30 years old, I understand that this is a common practice in the industry today and has always been so. Also, it's not just sf films, but all genres.
Can someone explain it to me?
