I have my B.S in math with 2 years of teaching experice in a middle school. Based on my experience, teaching is equivalent to two fulltime jobs. I am spending a huge number of hours on weekends and evenings to make the following day lesson plans, powerpoints, quizes, and check homework. With this much work, I cannot continue on with my post bachelorate studies, something that I am really looking forward. With this degree and experience, what choices do I have inorder to change my line of work. What chances do I have to get hired? Someone told me that I can try accounting. Do I have to attend any short certificate program before I get hired? Need your help. |

So, what do you think non-teaching jobs do? You spend huge hours on weekends and evenings, you have to spend time for the following day meetings, power points, and check your assignment. Accounting has little to do with a math degree, or teaching. It's its own language so they'll need to see a specialized degree, AND some hands on experience. It'd be like a mechanical engineer becoming a mechanic, close but not directly related. There are tons of opportunities for math majors, IT and computer/Internet jobs are hot, but long hours.
If the goal is to reduce hours, you'll probably have to look far and wide, I'd suggest looking at small companies. |
