      I lived in Taiwan for ten years and had to be able to read Chinese to get around on the bus and locate stores and so on. My Chinese is basic Chinese, with some specialization in art terms and materials. I studied Calligraphy and Chinese Painting and Scroll Mounting there as my own brand of language immersion classes. I know more about Chinese than I know Chinese. I know Mandarin and the traditional Chinese characters (can't stand the simplified characters now in use on the mainland).

      I cook from scratch and enjoy it. I can visualize how recipes would taste. I cook largely a vegetarian diet (when it comes to cooking meat, I just broil it or bake it or put it on the George Foreman, largely because I was a vegetarian for so long during my "formative" years in which I did my cooking learning). I learned to cook from my mom and from an old cookbook I found in a thrift store when I was just learning to cook -- published before canned food was common. I have won several cooking contests.

      Recently I have turned my efforts toward repainting dolls, specifically the My Scene dolls, after finding a couple of Barbies in the trash and working on them,

      I have collected dolls for 50 years (and with the exception of a couple of Bizarre Barbies I've bought in the last ten years and which I've kept in boxes as politically incorrect curios), am proud to say I never owned one.

      Had Mattel come out with the lovely My Scene Dolls when I was a pre-teen, I'd have a huge collection of them by now!

      Im crazy for movies and Hollywood history. Im a member of the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre and the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills.
