CeeBee2 asked on 11/15/09 - Information about IQGuru Some of you knew or knew of IQGuru, one of the charter members of Answerway. He passed away on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day, 2009. He had gotten pneumonia the previous year and had never shaken it, and meanwhile was slowly getting lost in the fog of Alzheimer's. I have been in phone contact with his wife who has been dealing with her own set of physical problems. She asked me to let his Internet friends/acquaintances know about his death. Toms777 asked on 03/08/08 - Respect for Institutions We can clearly see in scripture that we are to have the love of Christ for all people as individuals, whether Christians or no-Christians, in recognition that the one and only true God chose to come to earth as a man and died in the flesh on the cross that they might be saved. But is there anything in scripture exhorting us to respect or love manmade institutions, whether they be denominations, religions, clubs or secret societies? I did read many of them, but to me all seem a near endless stream of unclear statements clouding what is actually meant, and how to implement that in any practical way. . Is there anyone here who can tell me what is meant with these connected concepts of Christianity and Atheism? . As Christianity and Atheism seem to be opposing ideologies, can they be interconnected into a valid concept? . To me it seems that anyone with a Christianity-related question may post their question on the Q&A board. And anyone who wants to reply to that question or posted comments can do so within that topic. . Of course general discussions should be posted in the Christianity Forum. . Specially those with very outspoken views on the Bible seem to hide behind the boardrules to shy away from answering difficult questions and remarks on the Bible and Christianity. When the validity of the Bible is the topic, why would any true Christian shy away from answering and/or make follow-up comments within that topic? That must certainly be fully within the boardrules, is it not? . Also : why can certain Christians not simply admit that what they see as the "one and only truth" is actually based on their belief in Christianity and all that forms part of that religion? There is no 100% objective evidence for what is stated in the Bible. Neither is there any original Bible manuscript left. Of course you may believe whatever you like, but why that apparent need to post so many wild claims as the "one and only truth"? If you really think your views are the "truth", why don't you support your claims? Because if you can't provide objective supporting evidence for them, all you have are empty claims. . Must I conclude that (some) Christians feel that their own faith and belief are insufficient as support for their religious views? That their Christian belief and faith is so shallow that they have to refer to wild claims without any back-up, just to suppress their own fears? . I note that if these wild claims are questioned by others, these same people feel attacked and deeply lament their position on this board. Is your Christian belief and faith also so shallow that you feel the need to post belief-based claims as "one and only truth"? . ROLCAM asked on 01/17/08 - 'dialogue' Soulforce aims to 'dialogue' with six mega-churches; warning offered A coalition of groups led by Soulforce is targeting six U.S. mega-churches in an effort to foster dialogue about Christian views on homosexuality. Caleb Price with Focus on the Family says the campaign by the homosexual advocacy group has a friendly façade that belies the agenda of the group -- and that the churches targeted need to be on guard. This spring, members of the pro-homosexual group Soulforce and its allies will visit six well-known churches throughout the nation. Dubbed as "The American Family Outing," the campaign targets the following churches: Lakewood Church (pastored by Joel Osteen), The Potter's House (T.D. Jakes), Hope Christian Church (Harry Jackson), New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (Eddie Long), Willow Creek Community Church (Bill Hybels), and Saddleback Church (Rick Warren). According to the Soulforce website, "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people" and their families will attempt to visit with members, pastors, and leaders of the churches to talk about religious views on homosexuality. Their objective? "To begin a process of changing hearts and minds" in those churches, says a document outlining the campaign, and "to educate the national public through the media on the issues of faith, family, and sexuality." The website explains that a delegation of "families" including adults and children will visit each of the six churches. Caleb Price, a research analyst with Focus on the Family , warns that people should not be fooled by the campaign, the goal of which he claims is to disseminate a "false doctrine." "As with any temptation to disregard God's clear word on any given matter, this attempt by Soulforce and their allies is a classic example of what we see in Genesis Chapter 3, when the serpent tempts Eve by [asking] 'Did God really say ...?'" says Price. "And I think perhaps the biggest lesson we can take from that account is it's best not to talk to snakes. Scripture clearly teaches that there will be a great falling away in the last days and there will be wolves in sheep's clothing who will try to enter into the fold and deceive even the elect." Indeed, the dramatic experiences of 15-year-old Johanna Cardenas Constanzo is a story of hope and friendship and comfort. Many simply call Johanna's story a miracle. In September, Johanna traveled with her two sisters, Marina and Leslie, and several friends to a popular beach spot in Talcahuano in central Chile. The girls ventured to a hilly, picturesque area running alongside the Pacific in hopes of getting some good photos. "As we were taking our photo, Johanna grabbed hold of a rock to steady herself. The rock came loose and she fell into the water below," said a friend, Lorena Jaramillo. "We could hear Johanna screaming for help, but a wave took her away." Despite being a fit athlete, Johanna was no match for the power of the shifting sea. Johanna's sisters and friends were left frantic as the girl disappeared from their sight. News of the accident and its well-liked victim spread quickly. Friends and priesthood leaders from Johanna's ward and stake came immediately to the aid of the lost girl's family. Concepcion Chile Stake President Ruben Concha enjoyed a special association with Johanna and her family. President Concha had served as Johanna's bishop when the girl was baptized years earlier. Many times he had seen Johanna arrive at seminary soaking wet because she had rushed through the winter rain to faithfully attend her class. As he sat with Johanna's mother, Gladys Constanzo, and the rest of the Constanzo family, President Concha also remembered the girl's strong testimony and faith. The support and prayers of President Concha, Bishop Raul Vargas and other local members buoyed the spirits of Sister Constanzo and her family even as the Chilean Navy dispatched rescue helicopters and divers in their aquatic search for Johanna. The search was soon joined by fishermen and fellow members. As the hours turned into a day, and then two, Sister Constanzo said she held tight to an unspoken hope that her daughter would be found alive. That day, President Concha decided to visit the spot where Johanna fell in the water. He planned to again ask for the Lord's intervention on behalf of a girl that many loved and missed. As President Concha was nearing the beach he witnessed an unforgettable, ecstatic scene. Rescue workers were shouting with joy. Johanna had been found. Johanna was alive. Soon President Concha, Sister Constanzo and all of Chile would know Johanna's remarkable experience. Johanna's luck, they learned, shifted from bad to good moments after she fell into the sea. That large wave that prevented her from reaching the shore had swept her into an underwater cave. A small air pocket at the end of the ink black cavern held enough oxygen for Johanna to breathe. For two days she held tight to the side of the cave, battling hunger and fear. "I yelled for help, but the hours passed. I was alone and I prayed a lot and cried a lot," said Johanna. Tempus-Omnia-Revelat asked on 11/06/07 - Happy Diwali , all !                                      .                           In my previous hometown, South Africa's city of Durban, home to one of the largest Indian origin populations outside of India, the celebrations for the Hindu festival of lights - Diwali - are already under way.   One of the biggest festivals of Hindus, Deepawali or Diwali in India is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and happiness. This festival is celebrated for five continuous days, with the third day (11/9/2007) being celebrated as the main Diwali or as 'Festival of Lights'. Fireworks are always associated with this festival. The day is celebrated with people lighting diyas, candles all around their house. Lakshmi Puja is performed in the evening to seek divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth. Walking Eagle} has condemned me and others for believing in God. Of course we deserve this as no one bothered to ask his permission and get approval for our beliefs. Clarification/Follow-up by domino on 10/24/07 7:39 pm: belle33: No one is going to fault you for your belief in God, so long as that belief is REAL, based on reason and logic, not just something that was beat into you as a child, or picked up from some book of myth and fable. The really bad news is that apparently there is a committee that judges that sort of thing as he said noone will fault. PrinceHassim asked on 10/11/07 - The Blood Libel" shows what a long life lies have when they take on a life of their own after the [BLOOD LIBELS] are sensationalized allegations that a person or group engages in human sacrifice, often accompanied by the claim that the blood of victims is used in various rituals and/or acts of cannibalism. The alleged victims are often children. Some of the best documented cases of blood libel focus upon accusations against Jews, but many other groups have been accused, including Christians including Mormons, Cathars, Carthaginians, Knights Templar, Witches, Christian heretics, Roma, Wiccans, Druids, neopagans, and Satanists. When the Christianization of Greece occurred, there was an attempt to portray all sacrifices as blood sacrifices, but contrary to ancient Christian propaganda sacrifices to the Greek gods were typically in the forms of wealth. Human blood sacrifices were illegal in Greek cities. Early Christians spread propaganda about the children of Christians being abducted and having their throats slit in various temples. Such propaganda bore similarity to blood libel accusations against Jews. Blood sacrifices by other peoples were seen by the Greek people as barbarous, and laws against them were believed to be part of what separated the Greeks from those they considered barbarians, even after Romanization occurred. Blood libel against Jews is the most extensively researched case of blood libel. While there are indeed Jewish rituals that involve blood, none actually involve human sacrifice or other acts that blood libels accuse them of. Blood libels against the Jews were a common form of anti-Semitism during the Middle Ages. The first recorded instance of a blood libel against Jews was in the writings of Apion, who claimed that the Jews sacrificed Greek victims in the Temple. While celebrating the Eucharist, Christians drink red wine in response to the words "This is the blood of Christ". Propaganda arguing that the Christians literally drank blood based on their belief in transubstantiation was written and used to persecute Christians. Romans were highly suspicious of Christian adoptions of abandoned Roman babies and this was suggested as a possible source of the blood. In the Mandaean scripture, the Ginza Rba, a purportedly Christian group called the "Minunei" are accused of it against the Jews: "They kill a Jewish child, they take his blood, they cook it in bread and they proffer it to them as food." Another contemporary blood libel in the United States alleges, falsely, that both neopagans and Satanists use human blood, sexual abuse, or ritual murder, especially of children, in their rituals. Often Satanism, all of the diverse neopagan religions, the role playing game Dungeons & Dragons, and sometimes Roman Catholicism and liberal or non-fundamentalist Christian denominations, [such as Mormons] are portrayed as expressions of one monolithic and ancient global conspiracy of Satan-worshippers. Even if you could pick three, or even five people, it would still be a challenge. I imagine it would be hard to figure out whether you wanted to pick those Christians who think most like you, or if you would pick people who could better represent the many colors of Christianity, the subtle differences and big-picture similarities. Which living person would you pick to be the face of the entire Christian faith? bucker asked on 10/09/07 - Dividing the church of Christ First, let me say we all know that it is first and foremost the work of Satan. Now let us examine how this works. It has been going on even when Jesus was still here. Jesus was constantly correcting his disciples. There was disagreement among them, But all, except one, went on to be with Jesus. Now let us examine the different leaders, or let me say servants, or Jesus today. We can still see the same thing happening. How does it work? Here are some ways that are being used. A subject is discussed, and two disagree. One proves his/her point to a few, and the other proves his/her point to another group. This grows in to more disagreements, until the two groups divide. They part and build their own church. Sometimes it is things that matters very little, or not at all, to the work of Christ. But the division does not help the Church. One example I heard of, was a disagreement about which foot to wash in a foot washing service, the left foot or the right foot. The Church divided over this, and they are now called the right foot, and the left foot Church. Of course, they did not name themselves that. It is what people call them. Now let us get down to, "people calling". This hurts the Church more than anything I can think of. A church, no matter which denomination, can do thousands of good things, and you never hear one thing about it. But, Let a few people do one wrong thing, and the whole world will hear about it. I do not care if people are Catholic, protestant, Mormon, or what ever denomination. Even the non-denominational, I will not say a bad thing about them. Jesus says, judge and you will be judged. He goes on to say that, for what ever judgement you make, you will be judged the same. So if we say this one, or that one, is going to hell! Guess what? If we think someone is doing something wrong, we should pray for them, and ourselves, then go and tell them, is a nice way of course. Then go and pray for them again, and ourselves, just in case we are wrong. Then we should keep our mouths shut! Why? Because if we are wrong, we have not only hurt the ones in that Church, we have hurt the ones in other Churches, and other denominations. So let us do more praying for others, and ourselves, and less talking, unless it is something nice. There is an old saying that I always liked. It says that, "even though we go to different Churches, let us walk along the road together". However, if a person thereafter commits a grievous sin such as the shedding of innocent blood, then we believe that the Savior's sacrifice alone will not absolve the person of the consequences of the sin. Only by voluntarily submitting to whatever penalty the Lord may require can that person benefit from the Atonement of Christ. Several early Church leaders, most notably Brigham Young, taught that in a complete theocracy the Lord could require the voluntary shedding of a murderer's blood-presumably by capital punishment-as part of the process of Atonement for such grievous sin. This was referred to as "blood Atonement." Since such a theocracy has not been operative in modern times, the practical effect of the idea was its use as a rhetorical device to heighten the awareness of Latter-day Saints of the seriousness of murder and other major sins. This view is not a doctrine of the Church and has never been practiced by the Church at any time. Early anti-Mormon writers charged that under Brigham Young the Church practiced "blood Atonement," by which they meant Church-instigated violence directed at dissenters, enemies, and strangers. This claim distorted the whole idea of blood atonement-which was based on voluntary submission by an offender-into a supposed justification of involuntary punishment. When we hold a particular view of a people and their institutions we are inclined to interpret information concerning them in a way that reinforces our opinions of them. Unreasonable people remain convinced that their interpretation is correct, because appreciation of the true position removes the justification to continue persecution. Human pride can render this adjustment impossible. How can we account for the continued existence of persecuting ministries? It is apparent that those engaged in them cynically ignore the explanations offered by Mormons, or else their minds are firmly closed. In such cases the ministries are successful. Jesus' enemies claimed that he was a bad man. They impugned his character and charged him with criminal offences. Yet Christians refuse to accept the character assigned to him by his religious enemies. Why then should the character of Joseph Smith be determined according to the malign view of his enemies? The evidence finds him blameless of the grave charges raised against him. It has been demonstrated that the charges of criminality and immorality raised against him were the inventions of his enemies. If Joseph Smith was a fraud he was uncharacteristic. Frauds leave the arenas of their crimes when things get too hot. Joseph had no case to answer each time he was arraigned at the bar of justice. Forty-six times he was summoned to appear on a variety of charges and each time he was found innocent and acquitted. Considering that the legal system and civil government were hostile towards him, his record of acquittals was significant. The question of the origin of the Book of Mormon has but one enduring answer: it was divinely inspired, brought forth, and translated as Joseph claimed. All other theories of its origin have fallen by the wayside. The claim that Mormons are not Christians has been looked at in its context. Some of the arguments are understandable only in the very particular light of the Nicaean and Chalcedonian definitions. However, since these decrees, ancient and widely accepted as they are, are not immune from criticism in the light of New Testament studies and modern Christology they should not be used as the measure of orthodoxy. It is advantageous to re-examine the New Testament documents without looking for Trinitarian proof-texts, to discover exactly what Jesus and Paul said about God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. The images of Latter-day Saints as devil-inspired occultists is readily dismissed by those who know any members of the Church. Those whose only knowledge of Church members is drawn from anti-Mormon publications will hold different impressions. Efforts to prove connections between Mormonism and paganism and occultism are desperate and far-fetched, and can only be given credence by the grossly uninformed. In all ages of history the Saints of God have found themselves surrounded by enemies. The war in heaven has not been concluded. The history of Christianity is littered with the corpses of those who paid penalties for thinking and worshipping differently from those with the numerical strength, influence with the civil powers, and wealth enough to make them pay heavily for dissent. The persecution of so-called 'heretics' is not sanctioned in the New Testament and cannot be justified by churches claiming a New Testament foundation. What are the chances for peace? There have been many peace overtures between some of the larger denominations across the years. The Main difficulties are, and will remain, the unwillingness of each group to cede what they consider are fundamental principles and practices. The bridge between Roman Catholicism and Reformation Protestantism will never be bridged. The principal reasons being the claim of supremacy by the episcopacy of Rome; the insistence by Rome that Protestant orders of ministry are not valid; and the growing practice in Protestantism of the ordination of women and homosexuals. There are other reasons which may be as difficult to overcome but these are likely to remain after other difficulties have been resolved. The pronouncements of the Second Vatican Council provided hope for the resolution of the Reformation dilemma. But such hopes as dared be expressed were too long coming and eventually crushed by the introduction of ideas into Protestantism that Catholicism continues to eschew. The Anglo-Methodist movement has most chance of success where the Anglican faction operates within parameters of social awareness and is contained within a lively and charismatic ministry. The East-West schism shows little sign of resolution owing to the claims of each of the main factions to be legal descendants of the Apostolic Church. In strictly human terms difficulties as fundamental as these are incapable of solution. No one relinquishes power with any degree of grace, it has to be wrested from their hands. As the major denominations wrestle with the problems of being a Christian in the modern world and try to make theology and Christology, there are a growing number of marginalized sectarians who have taken upon themselves the task of interfering with the free exercise of the religion of other Christians in the mistaken belief that they are conducting a Christian ministry. Beckford comments upon the fact that the generators of controversies pay little attention to the major sects, focusing their attention uniquely on those they have determined are heretical . A heretic is one who does not agree with me! By insisting upon our own orthodoxy we make heretics of all others. According to persecuting ministries heresy is a condition requiring urgent treatment. In this way it is made to resemble alcoholism or smallpox. The first because of the familial and social implications which arise from variant behaviour. The variant behaviour of the heretic is thought religiously deviant and, therefore, dangerous. It resembles smallpox because of the possibility of infecting others with its fatal spiritual viruses. However, the alcoholic becomes acceptable when he or she admits being alcoholic, seeks treatment, and conforms social behaviour to the norm. The smallpox victim is socially acceptable only when all danger of infection has passed. That is, when the spores have been exterminated. In the same way heretics become acceptable only when they denounce their former beliefs and stand in the ranks of the self-proclaimed orthodox. When Jesus told his disciples they were the "salt of the earth" he had something more in mind than the unique contribution they would make by taking spiritual enlightenment to those who dwelt "in the darkness." He made it plain in his teaching that each Christian has a responsibility to make the world a better place, by showing a living concern for one's neighbour. He illustrated this responsibility by the story of a Samaritan who cared for a Jew. The modern analogue would be an anti-Mormon who was careful of the sensitivity of a Latter-day Saint. The Beatitudes convey in unmistakable power the nature of Christian belief, and the behaviour expected of those who follow Jesus of Nazareth. • Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. • Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. • Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. • Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. • Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. • Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. • Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. • Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. • Blessed are ye, when men shall revile, you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Christians are meant to be humble, meek, seekers after righteousness, merciful, pure-hearted, peacemakers, and when persecuted should not abandon from Christian behaviour, but refrain from responding in kind, maintaining the principles set out above. Then what justification for persecuting ministry is left? None But, some will protest, didn't Jesus speak out against hypocrites? didn't he cleanse the Temple with some vigour? He did, but these activities are not on par with anti-Mormon ministries. Jesus objected to what was taking place within the Temple, because greedy men were taking profit from the faithful. They were in it for the money. The Temple's purpose of worshipping the God of Israel, was being subverted by the noise of commercial undertakings such as money-changing, and the sale of sacrificial animals. His objection to the hypocrites was directed at those who belonged to his own religion. Of the pagan religions which rubbed shoulders with Palestinian Judaism, Jesus was silent. His tirades against those of his own religion. This understanding should convince Christians that their primary concern is to set their own houses in order, not the abuse by any means of other religious groups. A non-Latter-day Saint lawyer once advised that much of the abusive material put out by the anti-Mormon ministries was actionable in the law of libel. While that may be the case it is not the answer. The most effective answer to hostile publications is the continual demonstration of the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the lives of Church members. Such living testimony cannot be controverted. What the persecuted do in such circumstances will speak so loudly that the absurdity of these publications will be evident to all. Then the days of hostile ministries will be numbered. Latter-day Saints should not allow anti-Mormon publications to disturb their tranquillity nor undermine their faith. They can rest secure in the knowledge that there are full and complete answers to the many false charges levelled against the Church and its people. Most of these charges have been previously answered, but the intransigence of the persecutors guarantees that they will be raised time and time again. What is the appropriate response for a Latter-day Saint to make in the face of persecution? The Apostle Peter provided this valuable advice. Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you if ye be followers of that which is good? Cambridge astronomer Dr Floor van Leeuwen has spent the past 10 years checking and recalculating data gathered by the Hipparcos satellite. It collected the information in the 1990s, but questions were raised about apparent errors in the results. Dr van Leeuwen, who saw a flaw in the way Hipparcos worked, has now corrected the star distances. "It's been necessary to get more information out of the data than was published before," he told the BBC. Everybody in the queue can see the final destination at the mountain peak. A hundred miles away, they can see it perfectly clearly. And they wait, moving forward a couple of steps at a time. Towards God, and the Decision. At the head of the we find a young Christian, wearing an expression of awe and joy. Behind him, an atheist, looking slightly astonished, examining a leaf she has picked from a nearby bush, trying to decide if it is real or not. Heaven, she thinks, should be whiter, with more dry ice swirling about; not look like a Welsh hillside on a hot day. The Christian steps forward for judgment. "Hello Martin". God's voice is calm and gentle as He speaks. "Erm.. Hello. Lord". Martin's voice is nervous, as a dozen emotions fight for room in his mind at once. "This is it. This is where I decide what shall happen to you, Martin. In life, you were a Christian". It was a statement, not a question. "I was, Lord. I still am. I have been all my life. I think, like Martin, I believed because I believed." "And then you lost your faith? You decided I did not exist, and you knew better than those around you? You knew better than your pastor and family?" The voice was losing its kindly edge a little. "That is one way of looking at it, yes. What I believed did not seem to fit with other things I knew. The Bible clearly could not be literally true, word for word. I knew from biology and paleontology that humans had evolved like all other life, and were not special creations. How life or the universe began, I still don't know, but could not just merely accept 'God did it' as an explanation. I learned about other religions, and how they all claimed a monopoly on truth, happiness and morality. I saw the good done in your name, but I also saw the oppression, genocide and wars. I saw that if people were in need, it was up to us to deal with it, not to rely on heavenly aid.". Eve felt a little braver, but was expecting the traditional thunderbolt any moment. The people behind her, now at the head of the queue, were slowly moving backwards, trying not to draw attention to themselves. "Yet here you are, before your God, on the final Day of Judgment. Why should I allow you in - a heretic, a disbeliever, an infidel - when your predecessor, devout and faithful, full of love for me, was consigned to Oblivion? Tell me why. Justify your entry to my Paradise." Eve straightened up, looking God in the face. "Why should you let me in? Because I am better person than you." If Eve had looked round, she would have seen the entire line of souls, perfectly still and wide-eyed, staring at her in shock. "What did you say?", enquired God. His voice, though barely audible, caused tremors in the mountain. Surprised at still being alive, her mouth dry, Eve continued. "I said, because I am a better person. You have shown it yourself already. You told Martin that you watched as his mother became ill and died. You destroyed him for believing for no good reason, when his whole life had been shaped by that belief. Your preachers on Earth encourage unquestioning faith, yet you do not tell us whether that is what you want. You give people no rational basis for belief, and then when they make up their own that is not good enough for you. You listen to our prayers, yet do not answer, leaving people to rationalise events for themselves. People kill and slaughter over trivial differences in doctrine, and you look on. In the churches and temples raised in your glory, children are mentally and physically abused - in your so-called House! All over the world, throughout history, people have murdered each other for believing the wrong thing about God, for believing in the wrong God, or for not believing in any God. The poorest and most helpless people are relentlessly targeted, being told to give what little they have now, for the promise of eternal bliss later. When a person is at his lowest ebb, that is when the smiling missionaries appear, knowing that his life will probably get better naturally and they can give you the credit. Pete, I will not tell you of my past, it is noone's business but mine but many people know and knew me then and know me now. Only through accepting Jesus Christ as the Son of God who forgave me of my sins could I be the person I am today. You see I know that God is real without a shadow of a doubt and I know that the Holy Spirit lives within me and leads, guides me and directs me daily. As a child and a middle school kid I was scared of God because I had been told that God'll get you if you are mean and don't listen. When I gave my life to Jesus I still didn't totally give myself to Him and felt as if yes, I know Him, and that is what I am suppose to do. But I was never completely satisfied, there was always a longing and searching for more. There was more to it than I had perceived. Please believe me when I say, after a time I got to the point where I questioned my salvation. Then I started praying to God every chance I got, I read the Scriptures, mainly the Gospel of John and asked God to take me and use me for His service, still holding back some but eventually I surrendered to Him and through His love I have become a person I never knew. I trust Him to take care of me and my family. I tell Him what bothers me, I prayed for my marriage to be as my husband and I were when we were dating and first married, yes, we are totally in love, more than ever and we laugh the majority of the time unless one of us is desparetly ill and then we still look at each other as a young couple with desire and a love that will not die until God calls one of us home. So many times we are the center of conversations because neither was my husband what he should be, there has been many prayers that have brought this couple before the throne of God and this is not bragging it is in thanksgiving for our lives and what Jesus Christ has done for us. We both had talents we didn't know we had, Jesus showed us so as we are in service to Him and others. We want to do these things not because it surely pleases God but because HE put this love in our hearts for others and ourselves and we are running over with love, compassion and happiness that we never had. A joy and happiness that unless you have a "real" relationship with the Saviour, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, you willl never understand. Noone can totally describe it to you it comes from the living waters that only Jesus Christ can give. It is truely unbelieveable and that is why unbelievers cannot fathom the love of God. If anyone ever gives themselves to Jesus Christ totally, they will never be the same again. Christians are not better than anyone else but to put it mildly they are not worse than others either. We all make mistakes, fall short of the mark and have different personalities, in short we are human. You say you have always been good, good for you, there are millions of people just like you all over the world who think that because they are moral people that they need nothing else. But to have the joy unspeakable and full of glory in you life cannot be had by just saying I am OK. Can I prove God lives, you bethcha but only because He lives in me and I know, that I know, that I know. Why do you think you are on this Christianity site? Because the Holy Spirit is causing you to have doubts as to whether God is real which many of you say cannot be proved, not even by looking at the vast oceans, mountains, flowers, animals and the smile of a small child. But, a big bang did not haphazardly throw all the heavens, earth and sea together and "boom" there was everybody with every minute particle in us just exactly right to make us live and breath, to make the animals know how to take care of themselves, oh no, and they are still monkeys and chimps alive today but they are not able to do many things we do so with all respect for those who believe Darwin's theory, it just won't wash because we who have accepted Christ' death and resurrection and when He acsended into heaven He sent a comfortor to lead us, we know that we are of a "special kind". That is why we wish to see other people enjoy the love He gives. It is not my way to push Christianity on anyone. Yes it is nice to know that when Christians passover to the other side they will not face destruction but the joy of it all will be to thank the One who suffered, bled and died for us and to share His glory forever and ever. I can take a chance that I don't fall "asleep" overnight, but that is not likely, so I'm going to have to call 911 and go to the hospital and get some help. I'm sure some of you who are on his mailing list received same. PLEASE REMEMBER HIM IN PRAYER. Thanks. Bobbye ===============. (From Gay Bray): "Sorry to send a collective note here, but so many have written and been concerned with Ronnie's health problems, that I thought I'd just send a note to all. He appreciates all the good wishes he has received, and as time and his health permit, I'm sure he will write individually to you, but we wanted you to know what's going on. About 3 weeks ago Ronnie showed flu-like symptoms, and was given a prescription for an antibiotic. The very next day he broke out in a rash, like measles, and his fever went down. He still felt lousy, but we were not too concerned. After 3 days the doctor recommended a chest x-ray (which showed pneumonia in his left lung) and a bunch of blood tests and cultures. The cultures came back negative for any bacterial infection, but positive for Valley Fever. The doctor then gave him an anti-fungal prescription, since V.F. is a fungus-airborne disease. He is scheduled to see a Pulmonary Specialist next Monday and we hope he will be able to receive some good help. Ronnie has a few situations that complicate his health picture. First, his immune system is low to non-existent due to certain medications he takes for his bad arthritis. Also he has been bothered with lung problems most of his life, and this is just another situation to overcome. His energy level is very low, as you can imagine, and so he is staying close to his bed for the time being. He has tried to sit at the computer and get back to writing, but his body rebels and he has to give in for now. He is not alone in the bedroom, because usually both dogs share the bed with him, especially his faithful Border Collie, Frankie. Belle likes to bring a ball to him, on the odd chance that Ronnie would toss it for her to catch or chase." Written by USA Today Last Updated: 7/20/2005 9:21:21 AM Kids are choking themselves for the fun of it, sometimes fatally. In at least nine states in recent years, kids have been seriously injured or killed by "suffocation games" designed to induce a drug-like "high." Last week in Island Park, Idaho, Dalton Eby, 10, was buried after he accidentally hanged himself from a tree. He and a friend regularly played a game using a rope to cut off oxygen to the brain. The high-risk game is known variously as "blackout," "funky chicken," "space monkey," "flatliner," "tingling," and "suffocation roulette." Middle-school kids as young as 10 try it -- some in groups, some alone -- using belts, hands, ropes or plastic bags. Older teens may do it to increase sexual pleasure, and many young ones and most of the girls are seeking a non-drug high. "When they strangle themselves and then release the pressure, it creates a tingling sensation in their upper body, especially their arms and head. And they think that's cool," says Sheriff Ralph Davis of Fremont County, Idaho, where Eby died. Three months ago, a choking game may have killed another Idaho girl, Chelsea Dunn, 13. She was found hanging from a belt and shoelace outside her bedroom closet, according to her father, Joe Dunn. He says Chelsea confided in a young relative that she liked playing the pass-out game with friends in the locker room at East Valley Middle School. Six girls at the school had been suspended after a security camera videotape showed the seventh-graders choking one another in a hallway. "Parents need to know (that) very good kids do this," says Ashraf Attalla, a child psychiatrist at the Ridgeview Institute in Atlanta. "To my surprise, it's much more common than I thought. We're seeing this more and more." Attalla says he has patients who say they've played it every day. He says some troubled kids do it because of peer pressure, while high-achievers may be after a cheap and legal high. He says they experience "a mild to moderate state of euphoria" lasting 5 to 10 seconds, but it can cause serious brain injury. Ashley Tucker developed permanent brain damage. Seven years ago, in Cary, Ill., when she was 13, she played the game at a slumber party. Tucker told Chicago's NBC5-TV that a friend used her hands to make Tucker faint. Tucker went into a coma, spent months in rehabilitation and had seizures for two years. The practice has also occurred in Canada. Andrew Macnab, a pediatrician at the University of British Columbia, attributes four deaths and one near-death to boys ages 7 to 12 playing a "choking game" with towel dispensers. They wrapped the towel around their necks and hung from dispensers in school washrooms. The incidents led to changes in the design of the equipment. Ruth Rabinovitz, an internal disease specialist in Medford, Ore., says she has seen several cases but people are reluctant to discuss them. "They're underrecognized. They're often misdiagnosed as a suicide, to the further anguish of the parents." In New Hampshire, Thomas Andrew, a pediatrician and state medical examiner, reviewed three old cases he had deemed suicides after Tommy Fortin, 11, died from a choking game in 2001. He says he believes two of the deaths resulted from such games, but he only had enough evidence to reclassify one as accidental. "These cases are not abundantly clear-cut," he says, noting many medical examiners don't have the resources to gather the requisite evidence. When Jennifer Cernekee, 14, died in 2001 in Kenosha, Wis., her parents initially thought it must be suicide because they had never heard of choking games. But her father, Mark, says that didn't make sense. He says she was happy and well-liked. Her body also was in an odd position, tied to a sheet that was hanging from a shelving unit that had fallen forward. After learning of these games, Mark Cernekee says the authorities reinvestigated her case and found several kids had been playing them. He recalls seeing a black-and-blue mark on Jennifer's neck shortly before her death. When her mom asked whether she was having an allergic reaction, the daughter said "yes." "She would have been the last person anyone would suspect of playing a game like this," her father says. Even parents who suspect problems can't always head them off. Sarah Pacatte of Paradise, Calif., was in the kitchen when her son, Samuel, 13, found his twin brother in another room and began screaming "Gabriel!" Gabriel was hanging from a rope. Samuel lifted his body while Pacatte grabbed the noose, which fell away. Pacatte says both of her sons had repeatedly tried choking themselves. She told them to stop. But only Samuel did. It made me remember the scripture in Matthew 24:13 which says: ��He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.� So my question is this: �If we need to to endure to the end to receive salvation (or be saved) doesn�t that mean that one is not saved until they have endured to the end. Also is baptism in itself a guarantee of salvation? Is my believing in Jesus only mean my salvation? What does the Bible say? My understanding is that there are requirements for salvation. Notice why I say this. I personally believe there are various things involved in getting saved. We must take in accurate knowledge of God�s purposes and his way of salvation. Then we must exercise faith in the Chief Agent of salvation, Jesus Christ, and do God�s will the rest of our lives (John 3:16) �For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. (Titus 2:14) who gave himself for us that he might deliver us from every sort of lawlessness and cleanse for himself a people peculiarly his own, zealous for fine works. Salvation is sure for those who follow this course. But it involves persevering right to the end of our present life or of this system of things. Only �he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.�Matthew 24:13. IMAGINE THIS: Imagine being rescued from a burning tower. Think of the relief you would feel as you were safely taken from the building and the rescuer said: �You are safe now.� Yes, you would have been saved from certain death. But what would happen if you decided to go back into the building for some foolish reason? Your life would again be in danger. SO OUR SALVATION ALSO DEPENDS ON OUR FULFILLING AND ADHERING TO ALL THE REQUIRMENTS THAT GOD HAS SET OUT FOR US IN THE BIBLE AND TO ENDURE UNTIL THE END. THAT MEANS WE CAN LOOSE OUR SALVATION. To my understanding of the scriptures, those losing faith in Jesus also lose everlasting life. If one has faith in Jesus they obey his commands and endure to the end and receive salvation. If one disobeys and does not obey Jesus� commands and becomes a murderer or a thief or commits gross sin, he can loose salvation unless before he dies he repents and gets back on the path to salvation. So having said this, my question is What do you believe? Does the scriptures say one can loose their salvation? According to the Scriptures is a person once saved always saved? If so, then why would we need to endure till the end and be saved? He was arrested and incarcerated for two weeks in an Israeli military prison, which he described as a breeding ground for PLO indoctrination. Inmates were being trained on how infiltrate the Lebanese border. Ibrahim was rearing to join the PLO in Lebanon. But the Israeli authorities gave him 48 hours to leave the country and forbade him from returning. However, Ibrahim said: "I have been back four times since. They did not enforce the ban." Depressed, Ibrahim returned to the USA where he became involved in PLO fundraising and political activity. Around 1990, Ibrahim decided that he wanted to be a better Muslim and made an in-depth study of his faith. From the Koran and Islamic texts, Ibrahim went on to study the Bible. He said: "I was stunned. I wanted to know the truth. But the more I studied, the more confused I became. Mohammed had complained that the Bible had been corrupted and been superseded by the Koran. But the overwhelming evidence was that the Bible had not changed." For many years, during his research, Ibrahim prayed daily for God to reveal the truth to him, realising that a change of religion could put a Muslim death sentence on him. He claims: "God turned my life upside down. I realised I had been brainwashed to hate the Jews." His biblical research informed him that God had given the land of Israel to the Jews through a covenant. He said: "That covenant has never been changed." But he conceded: "God loves the Muslims, too." Nevertheless, he realised that Muslims had "blind hatred" towards the Jews. Ibrahim converted to Christianity 13 years ago. He is currently in demand at a speaker at Christian venues where he tells his story and urges support for Israel. This is the first time he has addressed a Jewish audience. He says: "I love Jews like my own brothers and sisters. They are not evil people but the most forgiving on earth. Who else would have forgiven after six million had been killed?" Completed almost 500 years ago, the brightly coloured frescoes painted on the Vatican's famous sanctuary are considered some of the world's greatest works of art. They depict biblical scenes such as the Creation of Adam in which God reaches out to touch Adam's finger. But Gilson Barreto and Marcelo de Oliveira say in their book The Secret Art of Michelangelo that the artist also scattered his detailed knowledge of internal anatomy across 34 of the ceiling's 38 panels. They say a tree trunk is not just a tree trunk, but also a bronchial tube. And a green bag in one scene is really a human heart. The key to finding the numerous organs, bones and other human parts is to first crack a code they believe was left behind by the Florentine artist. Essentially, it is a set of sometimes subtle, sometimes overt clues, like the way a figure is pointing. "Why wasn't this ever seen before? First, because very few people have the sufficient anatomical knowledge to see these pieces like this," said Dr Barreto, a surgeon in the Brazilian city of Campinas. Dr Barreto and his friend Dr Oliveira are not the first physicians to see depictions of human organs in the Sistine Chapel. Fifteen years ago Frank Meshberger, an American, pointed out that the figure of God and his surrounding angels in the Creation of Adam panel resembled a cross-section of the human brain. Dr Barreto came across Dr Meshberger's theory when packing up to move house, and decided that if there was a brain there had to be other organs. He searched through books and pictures of the chapel and found five or six other anatomical depictions which he showed Dr Oliveira. The pair then spent the next three months looking for further evidence. They discovered another US doctor, Garabed Eknoyan, had found the figure of a kidney in the panel titled Separation of the Earth from the Waters. The pair came to believe Michelangelo had put coded messages in each panel to help viewers find the hidden body part. Some clues are thematic, such as Creation of Adam or Creation of Eve, in which a tree trunk looks like a bronchial tube and God's purple robe is a representation of a lung when seen from the side. One could say God was imparting the "breath of life" into Eve in the scene, Dr Barreto said. In the scene Cumaean Sibyl a bag with a red frilly border and white rolled up scrolls inside hanging beside the Sibyl was a depiction of a heart, the diaphragm and the aorta, the doctors said. Faced with the paintings and photographs of the anatomical body part side-by-side, the theory is conceivable, although some matches require a a bit of creativity. Dennis Geronimus, a specialist on Renaissance art at New York University who examined some of Dr Barreto's and Dr Oliveira's "decoded" matches, said: "The problem, and art historians too are certainly often guilty of this, is simply that we often see what we want to see."
